Sun and planet formation
Once the interstellar cloud collapses on itself the disk of dust and gas that formed the sun, and planets is known as the solar nebula. This dense concentration of gas at the center of the rotating disk eventually becomes the sun. Further growth continued through collisions an merges of planetesimals. These events were violent and sometimes destroyed the planetesimals. The result was a smaller number of larger boues: the planets. The first large planet to develop was Jupiter, as it increased in size, its gravity began to attract additional gas, dust, planetesimals. This caused Jupiter to grow larger than any other planet. Saturn, and the other gas giants grew similarly, but they could not become as big, because Jupiter had collected so much material in the area.
