The nine planets in our solar system fall under two categories- the Terrestrial Planets and the Gas Giants. The four planets closest to the sun are referred to as the Terrestrial Planets. This set of planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. They have well defined, rocky surfaces. They are much smaller in size than the Gas Giants.
